Hello again dear reader.
I have not given up yet. Sorry
last week’s blog ended on a bit of a low note but I have had some really
positive responses from friends and family.
It does make a difference when you realise that people are on your side
and want you to do well. So thank you
for the support.
After the run on the weekend I did crash a bit, so I am
concentrating on making sure I eat better, or to be specific, eating more. But I really don’t want to become a food
bore. You know who I mean, those people
who tell you how many calories are in something just before you are about to
eat it.
I ran a really quick (for me) 4.3k recovery run
tonight. I think just because I wanted
to run fast for the fun of it. Tomorrow
I am going to do a bike ride rather than the dreaded hills. So I’m still training but the important thing
is that I am trying to make it fun again.
Oh and I am going to look for a new route to do at the weekend and try
for the 16k.
I did go for a bike ride last night, with my very bikey
friend and it was indeed good fun. We
rode 20k in about 45 minutes for those of you keeping count. But at work when I mentioned this at work I
received a scathing slur in reply! I was
accused of being a MAMIL (Middle Aged Man In Lycra). I dispute this in the strongest possible
terms. I am not Middle Aged!
Tonight I had a swim, which was pleasant and I met someone I
did swimming lessons with. He has just
completed his first Triathlon and was still clearly excited about it. I think I’d like to do a Triathlon after the
GNR but one thing at a time eh?
Today has been a very silly day but it has brought up the
interesting problem of how you fit training in when you have a family. The reason today was silly was that the only
time I was able to for my long run in this weekend was at 2:30 on Sunday. The
sun was at it’s hottest and by the end of the run I would have drunk from a stagnant
muddy puddle with a dead dog in it if I’d have seen one. However the most important thing was that I
did run 16.14k. It wasn’t quick (1 hour
23 minutes) but it was never going to be and now my right bum cheek it a bit
sore. But all of that is unimportant. It is only an additional 5 k for a half
marathon.
Well done for all your work so far. This has certainly been an uphill struggle but you are rising to the occasion and you will complete this challenge. The journey you're taking is as much part of the final run as the final run.
ReplyDeleteAlthough you don't want to be a calorie bore knowing the fuel that goes in your body enables you to perform better.
And no...you are not middle aged. Jealously, resentment and people's own insecurities makes them say silly things. Ignore their negativity.
